In the Beginning

In 1970 Christine Hastings went to Jamaica to serve as a missionary teacher at the “Calvary Baptist College” C.B.C.  in the city of May Pen which is located on the main highway about half way between Kingston and Mandeville.

In 1971 George Braidwood went to Jamaica to serve as a missionary teacher at the “Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf” C.C.C.D. in the community of Knockpatrick, just south of Mandeville.  He taught Auto Mechanics, Physical Education, and maintained the electrical and plumbing along with keeping all of the vehicles running.
George met Christine in 1971 while traveling with the director of C.C.C.D. on a shopping trip to Kingston.  They stopped at C.B.C. and they met the staff and missionaries there.  Well one thing led to another and George asked Christine for a date.  It was not too long after several dates with her that he asked her to marry him and on Christmas Eve 1971 she said YES.

They were married by her father, Pastor B.P. Hastings in July 1972 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Lenoir, NC.
Preacher Hastings is in Heaven now with Christine's mother, Muriel.

They had to leave at the end of 1973 because of not having their work permits renewed.  George had previously visited Haiti on a mission trip and felt lead to return to start a Christian School for the deaf in Port-au-Prince.
