February 1997 NEWSLETTER
Greetings from the Sunny tropicals. This is a nice time of the year with our temperature in the 80’s. Then as we watch the low temperatures in the U.S. we are very Thankful for what we have here in Haiti.
It is hard to believe that so much time has passed since we last wrote to you in December. We had a really good holiday season during Christmas and have had a busy beginning of the new year 1997. School is in full swing with approximately 200 student enrolled.
On the 13th we were a “Port Call” for the "U.S.C.G. Confidence" an American Coast Guard Cutter. The crew came ashore to paint and do maintenance on our Vocational Building. This the first time that the building has been repainted since we build it. We had a small ceremony after the days work with the Consul General from the U.S., the Consul General of Austria, American Military Officers stationed here in Haiti, a Representative from the Haitian Department of Social Affairs, members of the Press from several Haitian Radio stations, and the President of our Haitian Board of Directors along with his wife.
The military provided soft drinks, candies, and toys for the children. We had a small reception, approximately 40 people, in our home for the V.I.P.’s after the Ceremonies were over. It was a Wonderful day for all of us and we were so Thankful for the work and repairs that were done.
Our hearts were touched as we heard from many of you during the holiday season. We were so thankful for your response to our need. Thank you Very Much.
This coming June we will be losing the FREE food that we have been receiving from the U.S. Government. Therefore, please remember us in your prayers as we consider many changes we will need to make here at the school. We want to be lead by the Lord as we seek solutions for the long term objectives for the center.
In His Love,
George and Christine Braidwood
